I know we're all eager for spring to arrive here in Michigan, but this couple is most eager & with good reason! (And it's not weather-related!) Their baby girl is due to arrive shortly after Easter! I am so excited for Bethany & John, and loved seeing the joyful glow radiating from this beautiful mother-to-be!
Finally, a glimpse of spring here in Michigan! In the event space at the Homegrown Brewing Company the room was full of vibrant floral arrangements, geometric gold design elements, and beautiful teal accents, thanks to a group of very talented wedding vendors who came together to bring you this Geometric Spring Wedding Inspiration! I'm excited to share the details with you and introduce the skilled people who made it happen! But first, check out this amazing behind-the-scenes video put together by the team at Mission Point Films!
Check out the beautiful details in this emerald green & gold styled shoot at the Stone Chalet Bed & Breakfast in Ann Arbor, MI. Located near University of Michigan's central campus, this unique building is open for overnight guests as well as weddings and events. It was the perfect setting for some St. Patrick's Day wedding inspiration! Greg & Nicole have quite a history with photos dating back to their high school days, and quite a story as they went their separate ways after graduation. Little did they know that their paths would cross again later in life and bring them to this day! Their wedding day was exactly what they were looking for- a small, relaxed gathering of family and friends with plenty of time to talk, laugh, and dance! The ceremony and reception were held at Blake Farms in Armada, Michigan; home of Blake's Orchard & Cider Mill. It turned out beautifully! Read on to see more!
If you're in the market for a photographer but would like to gather some information before making a decision, I've compiled a list of answers to some of the questions I am asked most often during the booking process. If this list still leaves you wondering, please do send me an email; I'd love to tell you more!
How far in advance do you book?
I typically book wedding couples anywhere from 4-18 months prior to their wedding day. I highly recommend booking your photographer as soon as you have a date set and venue lined up because weekends are limited and dates can fill up quickly!
I met Ally while photographing the wedding of one of her family members and was so inspired when I took a photograph of her singing in the loft of the Octagon Barn that I couldn't wait to show her! (I've included that pic at the bottom). She contacted me after the wedding and we set up a winter senior photo session. What a day it turned out to be! The forecast was calling for freezing rain all morning, and then a Winter Storm Warning was in effect for the evening. We decided to chance it... and it turned out to be the perfect amount of snow with a nice break in the weather! We still had to deal with freezing temps and some harsh wind, but it worked out perfectly to do part of the session indoors first and then brave the cold. Totally worth it! This sweet couple got married this December at the Lapeer Country Club and it was a beautiful, emotional day. Having all these Christmas lights decorating the reception hall was magical! Chuck & Sarah are so down-to-earth and laid back and make such a great pair! I was so moved listening to the toasts and hearing the stories that made their family & friends cry tears of laughter and tears of heartache. These two have both been through the loss of a parent but this day showed how much love & support they have received from their families and given to each other. As a beautiful way to honor her mother, Sarah wore a bracelet that was custom made in the shape of her mother's signature. Keep reading to see these moments as well as the lighter ones... like the guy who changed into the ugly green Christmas suit to rock the dance floor at the end of the evening!
It was so great to see this family again after shooting their photos one year ago in downtown Detroit. Their boys are suddenly turning into teens! I love the coordinating wardrobe colors that Charlene chose for their Christmas Card, and I was so excited to have them visit me at my home "studio" in my own back yard at Awakened Light Photography in Oxford, MI. Check out a few of my favorites below!
I enjoyed these two sessions so much! Paul & Katie were so nice to work with and we lucked out to have sunny, 50-degree weather on both days despite it being the first week of December. Not bad, Michigan! Katie & I went to High Point Farm in Oxford, MI where she keeps & trains her horse Java. He's a beauty! The sunset was also beautiful and I absolutely love these photos of Katie! We met again a few days later, this time to do her twin brother's session at the barn on my property. I LOVE the warm light that comes from shooting inside my barn surrounded by rustic wood, and Paul is a handsome gentleman! Read on to see more from their sessions!
It was such an honor to meet Makayla & her mom for this senior photo session at George George Memorial Park in Clinton Township, and just in time to catch the last of the fall weekends before the freezing temps set in! Makayla is a natural beauty but I was most impressed with her sweet spirit and her heart when she told me she would like to pursue pediatric nursing and work with children battling cancer. I'm sure her family is very proud, and I'm happy to have gotten to know this girl! Here are some of my favorite photographs from the day- which I had a very hard time narrowing down!
